Review: Playing For Keeps by R.L. Mathewson

The Good: Good character development. This is a short story and the plot was fairly developed. The main characters are funny and very likable. I needed something funny and light and this book didn’t disappoint. The secondary characters were really well written as well. This is book one in a trilogy but it’s a great stand alone.

The Bad: The writer was all over the place with the flow of the scenes. Some scenes were rushed, others were just skipped. I was really enjoying the romance in this novel but I could tell the writer just wanted to get to the conflict scene and write the resolution. I liked the plot but it was rushed.

The Ugly: Besides the cover? I really hated the change of POV in the book. While it was written in first person, the narration keep switching back and forth without indication who was narrating. It was messy and all over the place.

Overall, this is a fun, quick read. Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble
