Review: Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey

The Good: This is a funny and cute story and I really liked all the humor. The author has a very unique writing style. Lots of inner monologue, so if that’s your thing, you’ll love this little New Adult novel. While the characters were teenagers and behave like such, they were also very down to earth and likable.

The Bad: The plot had potential to be so much more but the writer didn’t go anywhere with some of the conflicts that were presented on the book. This is a series, so we’ll just have to see what comes of it. While I really like the voice of the characters, they kept going on and off character. There were too many 80’s references that made the characters unbelievable. One or two references is ok, but when the whole book quotes from two decades ago, you start hearing the voice of the author rather than the characters.

The Ugly: This book needs a professional revision. The grammar and spelling was great but I found missing words a few times. These are mistakes that people close to the story will miss. I was able to read past them but if this review is ever read by the author, she’ll know what to look for to fix it 🙂
